When you’re just starting out online, with your home based business, driving traffic to your website should be a top priority. A lack of visitors will be reflected by your poor sales and low profits and, after all, making a living from home was the main reason you started your business in the first place.
Of course, it’s very easy when you’re new to Internet marketing and traffic generation to make mistakes by doing, at times, what you shouldn’t do to attract guests to your home page. Bearing this in mind here are, what I believe to be, the top five don’ts committed by newbie’s online today:
1. Don’t attempt too many traffic generation techniques at once. Many new Internet marketers try to do too much at once when it comes to driving traffic to their website. There are so many different options available to them and they’re so anxious to achieve success and to make money online immediately, they devise a strategy which has too many tactics included.
This makes it impossible for them to spend the time necessary on a few well chosen strategies to get the results they expect and they need when starting out with their home based business online. They would be better served by selecting two or three techniques which they enjoy doing and then master one in the beginning and then move on to their second choice and implement that tactic.
2. Many people don’t take the time to monitor their individual strategies and the results they’re generating. Most newbie’s create a traffic generation plan, implement it and irregardless of the results they live or die by their strategy without even attempting to implement any new techniques.
They have to remember nothing is carved in stone and what may work very successfully for one marketer may produce poor results for another for whatever reason. By revisiting your plan on a regular basis to monitor the outcome you then have the opportunity to tweak your techniques or overhaul them completely in order to produce the visitors you need.
3. If you’re told how successful you can be by using a certain technique don’t force yourself to do it if you don’t enjoy doing it. Article marketing is a great example; some people enjoy writing every day while others just aren’t interested or they just aren’t good at it.
If this is the case then hire someone to do this chore for you so you can avoid the tedium and frustration you may encounter by trying to convince yourself you can do it when you know deep down you can’t do it because you hate doing it.
4. Don’t try one strategy one day, or for a few days, and then move on to something new because you’ve decided it isn’t working. Like anything else online generating a constant, consistent flow of traffic to your home page takes time so don’t give up on a certain tactic too soon. Patience is a virtue and this adage certainly applies to Internet marketing and to attracting visitors to your website.
5. Don’t assume you know how to do this; after all you’re new to this field, so take the advice of more experienced online marketers and welcome their input. Many people isolate themselves when working on the web and this is a big mistake. Networking and establishing relationships with successful business people on the Internet can only help you and your endeavor succeed.
So if someone more experienced and more successful than yourself offers you advice about driving traffic to your website, or about anything else related to your home business for that matter, take it.
Traffic generation is the life blood for any home based business online and by mastering this strategy early on in your Internet marketing career you will have a tremendous advantage over your competition and you will enjoy the success you’re seeking much sooner rather than later.
