You’ve created your home based business online and you’ve joined a prominent affiliate program. You’re driving lots of targeted traffic to your sales page but you aren’t getting any sales and you don’t understand why? Well, the simple truth of the matter is you may not be getting credit for your sales even though they originated from your website and here are 5 reasons why this may be happening:
1. There’s too much happening on your website which is distracting to your visitors and they aren’t reaching your order page. Having too many external links and banners on your home page may be taking people away from the main reason they visited which was to purchase your affiliate product. Try redesigning your site by deleting some of these signs and external URL’s and start concentrating on directing your guests to your buy button.
2. There are far too many dishonest and unscrupulous people online who may be claiming your commissions as their own. For example the merchant may be taking credit for your sales by following up after someone signs up for your mailing list by making the sale from his own link.
3. If your affiliate link isn’t masked or disguised people may be taking out your identification number and replacing it with their own after joining the affiliate program and claiming your sale through their ID number. Or, your visitor may recognize that you’re an affiliate and bypass your site by going directly to the affiliate program page, therefore the sale goes directly to the program website. For this reason it’s important to use one of the cloaking programs available on the web to disguise your affiliate link so you will get credit for all of your sales.
4. There may be an unconcealed link to the affiliate signup page so your potential customer joins the program first and claims his own sale as an affiliate in order to collect, what would have been, your commission. Avoid this by making sure there are no obvious connections to the affiliate subscription site on your home page.
5. There may be too many products on the page with yours being just one of many available. This isn’t attractive to your visitors because more often than not all of this merchandise is unrelated and there’s no single theme at work which your potential customer can relate to. They would have to search through the page to find what they need and most people don’t have time for this and will simply click through to another website to find what they want.
These are 5 of the main causes for losing affiliate sales and credit for commissions which are rightfully yours and something you should always beware of as a home business person online and an affiliate program member.
