Hackers, viruses, spyware, trojans, malware, phishing, worms, adware, spammers and malicious, miserable people who number in the thousands are all a fact of life online and you need to know how to make it more difficult for them to make your home business experience on the web a miserable one. Believe me I know whereof I speak. As I’m writing this article I’m corresponding via email with the security team at my host provider regarding an attack on my business website which literally wiped it off the Internet map.
This has been an ongoing problem for 3 days now and I was informed about two hours ago this person has been accessing my account and making changes ever since last August and this past weekend he or she took it to a whole new level and destroyed my home business website. It makes you wonder what kind of satisfaction someone derives from trying to make someone’s life more difficult by wiping out their past year’s hard work. All I can come up with is their lives are so pathetic and they’re so sad and useless they believe they can somehow drag others down to their level, which of course is impossible.
What they fail to realize is something like this only makes me, and I’m sure everyone who’s striving online to better themselves and their family’s financial situation, more determined than ever to succeed so we can rub their virtual nose in it. This may help convince them that if they directed their efforts in a more positive direction they too could thrive and feel like they’re contributing to society in a more constructive manner rather than trying to deter others from achieving their goals.
My intention when I began writing this article wasn’t to turn it into a rant, maybe a little late for that now, but to warn anyone online who is trying to achieve or reach any kind of goal to backup, backup and backup some more. I can’t emphasize this enough. I was very lucky, in one way, because just two weeks ago I performed my first ever website backup, meaning I saved everything I could on my home business website and blog.
I don’t know why, all of a sudden, I decided to do this after being on the web in one form or another, and off and on, for nearly seven years but thank heavens I did. This means I can recover more quickly and have my business website back online after the host investigation is complete and when I have more security in place.
My other intention, when I began to write this editorial was to tell you how to best protect yourselves and your online businesses from these people. But I realized after I started writing if I knew how to do this I wouldn’t be in this situation. So I need to research this topic and implement these measures on my own website, before I restore it, and then write about how you can try to prevent this from happening to your home business or blog.
Finally, what I’m saying is, the two best things you can do for your online home business and or blog are: first of all, backup your website at least twice a week and immediately after you make any big changes. And secondly, learn all you can about how to best protect your investment and then implement these measures so you can relax and concentrate on getting to where you want to be on the web.
