I want to let you know something exciting I have discovered about getting more traffic on your YouTube videos.
Recently I put together a content-based video for my email list, and also uploaded it onto YouTube. I decided to test setting up a Google Video Ad for the video, as I have started hearing that paying a little money for some traffic for your YouTube video will in turn boost your organic rankings that come through search results.
So we set up the video ad. (We are completely green when it comes to setting up ads – we just watched a few tutorials to find out how it was done).
We targeted people who viewed videos about getting more YouTube traffic, and ran the ad for a few days, spending £23.09 in total (just under $40).
We receive 356 views, and each view cost us £0.06 on average.
Then we paused the campaign.
But then we noticed something interesting.
YouTube started ranking the video for all kinds of related keywords.
Before running the ads, the video was hidden deep in YouTube and did not even rank for an exact match keyword (because we has not optimised the video for search ranking at all.)
Now it ranks for all kinds of related keywords and variables of the title.
We are now number one for the keyword ‘get more sales from youtube’ and other great keywords.
Don’t forget – we have turned our ads OFF – this is no longer costing us a penny.
The reason for this is down to the ads battle between Facebook and YouTube. YouTube rewards people for advertising with them instead of Facebook, by boosting their organic rankings.
As we have proved – you don’t need to spend much money, or have any ads expertise.
So let us encourage you – it is highly worth spending about $30 per video that you upload to YouTube, to aid its organic rankings. You can switch the ads off after a day or two, and enjoy the ongoing boost to your video views.
P.s You might notice we only had 2 clicks to our ad. This is not a problem – the video did not include a call to action, nor was it in any way optimised to drive traffic to our website. We just picked it to test the theory on.
